Regul R100 PLC

Regul R100 PLC is an all-in-one device that combines in it features of the peripheral equipment and programmable controllers. The controller was designed to collect the data and control processes as by itself as a part of the system made with REGUL controllers.

Overview
Regul R100 controllers complies with the key functional requirements to a control system:
  • Protection devices, such as galvanic isolation barriers, intrinsic safety barriers, pulse overvoltage protection devices.
  • Output power relays.
  • Input terminal block for direct connection of the field cables.
  • Power supplies for the measurement channels.
  • Elements of the analog-digital conversion.
  • Central processor unit running user algorithm.
Advantages of the Regul R100 controller in the design, manufacturing, and operation of automation systems:
  • Reduction of the time and cost of engineering due to a multiple reduction in the components of control cabinets. In most cases, when Regul R100 is used, the control cabinet package consists of power supplies and controller modules.

PLC design
Regul R100 controller consists of modules and submodules. There are three module types for this controller:
  • Main module – includes chassis to install all types of submodules
  • Control module — has only slots for installation of the central processor unit submodule and interface submodule
  • Extension module — has only slots for the installation of input/output submodules
Main module Control module Extension module The base element of Regul R100 is the controller module. It is a housing mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail with switching elements and submodule chassis located on it. The module carries mechanical and electrical connections among submodules and provides fastening of the controller in working order. For the convenience of designing electrical cabinets, it is possible to install modules both horizontally and vertically. Regul R100 controller modules come with a different number of slots for installing I/O submodules – from 12 to 32 slots. To increase the channel capacity, Regul R100 controller modules can be combined into racks by means of inter-module connectors located on the left and the right ends of the modules. In this case, as part of one crate, be up to five expansion modules. In total, taking into consideration the use of 32-slot modules, it is possible to design racks with a capacity of up to 160 channels. It is possible to operate Regul R100 controller modules as part of Regul PLCs under the control of any central processor. In this case, one PLC can contain up to 255 racks of the Regul R100 controller. Regul R100 controller modules already in the base support operation as part of a redundant controller. It was achieved due to the possibility of installing two interface submodules, which are completely independent of each other, exchange with the central processor each on its internal data bus and each replaceable during operation independently of each other without loss of communication and control of the process. Regul R100 controller submodules represent a compact and ergonomic product with great functionality. Each submodule has two screw-type connectors designed for taking measurements from the operating equipment. Also, these connectors can be used for long-term opening of circuits in cases where it is required to prevent signal passage to the submodule from the field devices or to avoid erroneous issuance of the control action to the actuator. Test sockets of the connectors are located under the submodule cover, which allow measurements of electrical values on any circuit connected to the submodule. There are also two connectors for jumpers to select functionality. In addition, these jumpers, in some types of submodules, play the role of easily replaceable fuses. In order to prevent erroneous installation of a submodule into a slot not intended for this type, keys are located in the lower part of the case, with the help of which the slots are encoded for the corresponding type of submodule when you first install it.
Power supply and wiring
Regul R100 controller modules provide the user with great flexibility in the approach to constructing power circuits for measurement and control channels. For this they have three independent power supply buses:
  • Internal power supply bus A – designed to power the electronics of the submodules. In addition, this bus supplies power to the channels’ power supplies with 5 kV galvanic isolation built into the submodules. Bus voltage 24 V, maximum current – 10 A.
  • External power supply bus B — designed to power channels both directly and through the built-in into submodules power supplies with galvanic isolation of 1.5 kV. Bus voltage – 24 V, maximum current – 12 A.
  • External power supply bus C — intended for power supply of input and output discrete channels. Voltage – up to 220 V, maximum current – 12 A.
The presence of three independent power supply buses in the module, one of which is designed for voltages up to 220 V, makes it possible to completely abandon the use of intermediate terminal blocks for organizing power distribution. To power up the measuring or control channels, simply select the appropriate mode using a jumper on the submodule. To provide independent power supply to sensors and executive devices as part of the submodule there is a power supply with a power of up to 2 W. In this case, the user is given two options to choose from:
  • Power supply with galvanic isolation 5 kV, connected to the bus A (mainly used in submodules with built-in intrinsic safety barrier).
  • Power supply with galvanic isolation of 1.5 kV, connected to the bus B.
The use of built-in power supplies allows designing systems with channel-by-channel galvanic isolation without using additional external power supplies in the control cabinet. Presence of a six-contact terminal block allows connection of four-, three-, two-wire sensors on the same sub-modules, without additional wiring. Example of a control cabinet with Regul R100 modules
Modules

The terminal block of each slot is factory-labeled (in the form of Latin letters from A to F), as well as a place for custom marking, performed by commercially available marking strips both with the already applied numeric code and with a blank field – for subsequent application of individual user marking using printer.

Regul R100 I/O submodules are available in one- or two-channel design. Single-channel submodules can be equipped with built-in intrinsic safety barriers and surge protection devices.
